Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training

85 Hour Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Program

Cityoga’s comprehensive 85-hour training draws on Kelly and Lisa’s 35+ years of combined experience of teaching prenatal yoga, birthing children, and assisting other births, bringing you the best practices in terms of safety, sequencing, and teaching techniques. This will also be Indiana’s first and only school to offer a Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT) certification. This training will give you the confidence to absorb and embody the specialized knowledge of appropriate asanas and other yogic practices for safely teaching yoga throughout all stages of pregnancy. You will also learn tools to help prepare the pregnant practitioner for labor, childbirth, and beyond.

Topics to be covered:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the pregnant person and baby throughout the three trimesters of pregnancy
  • Mental, emotional, spiritual changes, gifts, and challenges a pregnant person might experience
  • Labor and delivery: different stages of labor and birth and how to prepare for an empowered birth experience
  • Safety guidelines and contraindicated poses and practices
  • Prenatal yoga postures, alignment, and sequencing for each trimester
  • The fourth trimester
  • Guest speakers who are experts in their field of study
  • Learning how to provide a safe space and create a community in a yoga class
  • Yoga for common pregnancy complaints
  • Pelvic floor health and stability
  • Language and cultural awareness
  • Working with props to modify and adapt to the different stages of pregnancy
  • Prenatal restorative yoga, including a variety of stress-relieving techniques
  • Meditations, visualizations, and affirmations
  • Pranayama for pregnancy and childbirth
  • Prenatal partner yoga
  • Singing and ceremony to honor the sacred body and experience of fertility
  • Ethics of teaching Prenatal Yoga
  • Gender-inclusive language to bring awareness to the diversity of gender identities in our LGBTQIA communities, providing a safe and welcoming environment for all people

By the end of this training, you will have developed an instructional foundation of skills in prenatal yoga that will allow you to add a new and vibrant dimension to your yoga instruction and/or in your career as a birth worker or childbirth educator.
