Course Overview

Who is This Course For?

This course is designed for yoga teachers who want to deepen their understanding of where they may feel stagnant, unsure, or stuck. It offers an opportunity to refresh and enrich their teaching style through inspired vinyasa sequencing and experimentation with new ways of speaking and guiding a group. You’ll be encouraged to step outside your comfort zone and develop new skills that not only expand your teaching toolkit but also help you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin while leading classes.

Serving as a stepping stone between a 200-hour and a 300-hour training, this course supports teachers who are ready to continue growing but aren’t yet ready to commit to a full advanced program. Through practice in verbal cueing, class presence, hands-on assists, adjustments, and exposure to new styles and concepts like somatics, alignment, and yin, you’ll gain tools to offer your students a more well-rounded and transformative class experience.

Course Theme & Structure

This course is structured as a progressive spiral, guiding you through eight sessions that move from rooting into your purpose as a teacher to expanding creativity, refining skills, and ultimately integrating everything into your authentic teaching voice. Alongside sequencing theory and structure, you’ll refine the art of effective cueing, strengthen your authentic voice and presence, and explore class theming and the energetics of both movement, breath, and stillness.

The training offers a blend of philosophical inquiry, asana and sequencing labs, practice teaching, and both individual and collaborative reflection, supporting you in creating intelligent, creative, and purposeful sequences that truly meet the needs of contemporary students. Along the way, you’ll receive mentorship, feedback, and personal guidance from four experienced teachers, ensuring you leave the program not only with new skills but also with greater confidence, clarity, and connection to your unique purpose as a teacher.

Session Topics:

  • Root into purpose by clarifying your personal practice and teaching intentions.
  • Principles of sequencing, from foundational sun salutations to creative transitions.
  • Theming and storytelling to weave philosophy (ancient and modern) into classes with meaning.
  • Verbal cueing, pacing, assists, and energetic architecture to refine your teaching presence.
  • Breath and nervous system awareness as a bridge between structure, flow, and transformation.
  • Cultivating creativity, authentic voice, and confidence in class design and delivery.
  • Practical teaching labs with feedback to integrate skills in real time.
  • Reflection and integration practices that bring your journey full circle into purposeful teaching.

Dave Sims, E-RYT500, YACEP

Dave, embraces the opportunity to provide space for students and teachers to share their passion for yoga. Dave began his Yoga journey several years ago while following a recommendation from a friend to try yoga while preparing for a marathon. Dave began to realize the value of yoga to improve ALL areas of his life and embraced the Mind, Body and Spirit dimension, particularly complementing Dave’s thirty plus years of meditation practice and thousands of hours teaching and practicing yoga. By “living his yoga” Dave continually studies the ancient yogic texts to impart their philosophical teachings to his students. Dave continues to be an impassioned student of yoga. Dave has had the honor of learning from amazing teachers; Marsha and Nikki at CITYOGA, Jaggi Vasudev of Isha Yoga, Rolf Gates (500 hr Advanced Vinyasa training) and finds inspiration from many very accomplished local and national Ashtanga teachers.

Kristen Kaweck, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, YACEP

Kristen discovered the benefits of yoga in 2004 through a physical therapist's recommendations for managing a pinched nerve in her low back. Her curiosity grew as she explored classes and studios throughout her teen and young adult years. Her practice stayed fairly consistent through high school, college, and into her working career. She knew at a young age that teacher training was in her future. That manifested in 2020 when she received her 200hr YTT training with YogaRenew during quarantine. The flood gates had opened, and the following year she did additional Yin and Mindfulness training, and eventually completed her 300hr Advanced Vinyasa training in 2024 with Rolf Gates at Cityoga.

Beyond her yoga studies she also has a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University, and a master's degree from the University of Indianapolis. Originally from Michigan, she moved to Indianapolis in 2012 yearning for a new scenery and experiences. Indianapolis is home now, and she is deeply involved in the Indianapolis community as a board member of the Heartland Mindfulness Collective and Indianapolis Red, Indy's local women's professional ultimate frisbee team.

Heather Eicher, RYT200

Heather began her yoga studies on the Big Island of Hawaii under the celebrated Ashtanga master, Norman Allen. She studied with Mr. Allen for 12 years and received a five-year Intensive Study certification. She then completed a 200-hour teacher training with the world renowned yogi, Aadil Palkhivala. Heather continued her education with a two-year asana study with Ray Madigan, a senior teacher of Iyengar yoga. Heather teaches with detail and enthusiasm. She encourages people of all capabilities to join her class.

Lisa Daugherty, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, PYT, Doula

Lisa Daugherty, Executive Director of Heartland Mindfulness Collective, is a mother of four and has been a yoga teacher and a doula in Indianapolis for 20 years. She is a 200 hour CYT and has taught yoga to thousands of people, using a variety of styles and techniques including stress relief yoga, prenatal yoga, vinyasa and yin yoga and many more. She also practiced and taught yoga throughout her pregnancies.

Her doula experience and training came from working as a birth assistant for homebirth midwives in Tucson, Arizona. Lisa became deeply interested and invested in the midwifery model of care and informed consent, and went on to have 4 home births, all attended by lay midwives. She began attending births as a doula in 1998 and has since attended over 100 births in a variety of settings, hospitals, birth centers and home births. She stayed connected to the Indy birth community working for several years as Communications Coordinator, working closely with Certified Nurse Midwives, Registered Nursed and Certified Nurse Midwives, Registered Nurses, and Certified Medical Assistants, and Sacred Roots, Indy’s only freestanding birth center.

She is continuously mesmerized and inspired by a pregnant person's capacity to incubate and bring forth new life, often in a deeply personal, physical, emotional and spiritually transformative way.
