
CITYOGA 500 (CY500) 
Flexible and Comprehensive Yoga Alliance Based 500-Hour Teacher Training Certification
CITYOGA 500 is a flexible and comprehensive Yoga Alliance based 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) Certification. CITYOGA 500 builds upon the basic 200-hour Yoga Alliance registry curriculum. It provides an additional 300+ hours of advanced training to deepen personal practice and advance teaching skills. Students with a 200-hour certification from any Yoga Alliance registered school or who are currently registered at the 200-hour level with Yoga Alliance are eligible to apply.
Designed much like graduate work at a university, this modular format allows students to schedule and structure their training in a flexible way. The curriculum consists set of core requisite courses (see outline below), augmented by electives. Electives are fulfilled through independent study or workshops and intensives held at CITYOGA or other locations. Students in the 500-hour program are eligible to receive transfer credits for electives taken at other locations.
Certification Program Outline
- Core Curriculum - 4 class modules each 6 weeks in length, including one weekend. Classes meet on Thursday evenings from 5:30 - 10:30p. Cost: $600 per module
- Practicum/ mentorship module - 40 hours of one-on-one work with appointed/chosen mentor. Cost: $600.00
- 105 Hours of Required Electives
Core Curriculum -165 Hours
- Module 1: Yoga in Action: Ethics for Yoga Teachers and The Art of Teaching Yoga: A Comprehensive and Practical Teaching Methodology
- Module 2: The Deeper Dimensions of Yoga
- Module 3: Pranayama, Bandhas and Mudras, Anatomy for Yoga Intensive
- Module 4: Teaching Meditation Techniques and The Inner Path
Required Practicum/Mentorship
In addition to the core curriculum, this program requires students to choose and work with a designated and approved teacher mentor. In general, the mentor will observe classes taught by the student and deliver guidance about areas of concern or safety, identify areas of possible improvement, advise about development opportunities, assist in the development of long-term goals and objectives. Students will work with mentor to create a professional development plan.
Required Electives 105 Hours
Credit is earned for approved programs and independent study.
- Techniques: 50 hours
- Teaching Methodology: 10 hours
- Anatomy & Physiology: 30 hours
- Philosophy/Ethics/Lifestyle: 15 hours
Total Hours of Study 500 Hours
CPR Certification is required for Certification. Yoga Alliance registry at the 500-hour level requires 100 hours of documented teaching time.
CITYOGA 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program Directors
Marsha Pappas, E-RYT has been a diligent yoga student for more than 20 years. Since completing her teacher training under the direction of Swami Satchidinanda at the Integral Yoga Ashram in 1996, she has been teaching yoga full time in and around the Indianapolis area. With a focus on the stress reducing aspects of yoga, she now also leads Stress Management workshops around the city and state. Marsha is a founding member of the Indiana Yoga Association and the Director of the CITYOGA 200-hour teacher-training program.
Nikki Myers, Roxanne “Nikki” Myers, E-RYT500, MBA, Yoga Therapist in Training, Founder/Owner CITYOGA School of Yoga and Health . Nikki is an accomplished teacher and practitioner on the path of Yoga. A unique focus of her path has been the integration of yoga in healing. In fact, Nikki came to yoga in the midst of her own health crisis, but quickly realized yoga was centering and firmly grounding her in a scared space that allowed healing to happen far beyond the physical.
Nikki’s study lead her to: The American Viniyoga Institute, under the leadership of Gary Kraftsow, where she received certification as a Viniyoga Teacher and continues as a Yoga Therapist in training. She is currently a second year student in Somatic Experiencing, the distinguished trauma healing program under the directorship of Peter Levine. She has completed teacher training with Tias Little, received cardiac and cancer certification with Nischala Devi and regularly assists and co-teaches with her sister/friend Seane Corn at workshops and conferences across the U.S. She is a regional leadership ‘Diva’ for Off The Mat, Into The World and her extensive travels have lead her to joyous work/study in Africa, Cambodia, India, Thailand and more.
