Tantra + Vinyasa - A Great Combination
Jim Bennitt teaches Tantric Vinyasa Yoga: an authentic, comprehensive practice with sequencing influenced by classical yoga, Ayurveda and Tantra. The main difference you'll notice in a Tantric Vinyasa class is that they include something called ADHIKARA. Simply put, adhikara means "progression" and "a sensitivity to the subtle realms". There will be guidance on alignment and a smooth pace to build heat, improve flexibility and strength, however, it won't stop with the physical body. Through "weaving" in certain breathing and meditation techniques, we will build this "sensitivity to the more subtle forces" or PRANA. The ancient Yogi's believed through learning to control the prana, you also learn to control the mind. You will leave a Tantric Vinyasa class feeling like you've cultivated vital life force and also a clear mind.

Ashtanga fun with Patrick!
Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is a quick-moving, powerful vinyasa practice and has been taught in India since at least the 1930s. It relies on a specific blend of breathing technique and gazing points throughout the practice, to develop a meditative state even while in challenging poses. Sustained Ashtanga practice produces a strong and flexible body and a light and calm mind. Many of today’s modern vinyasa yogas are based on the Primary (first )sequence of Ashtanga.
In this workshop students will learn how to properly do and maintain UJJAYI (“victorious”) breath, understand the major DRISTI (gazing points), and specifically how and when to employ UDDIYANA BANDHA (an energy “lock”). We will then do the classical opening chant for Ashtanga practice, and at least 40 of the 72 poses of the Primary sequence, along with an introduction to jumping-through and jumping-back, the “vinyasa” between seated poses. The asana practice will include sun salutations, standing poses, seated poses, hip openers, twists, backbends, optional inversions and cooling poses. Every student in this workshop will receive a “cheat sheet” of poses from the Primary sequence. |
